Legislative Scorecard:
Minnesotans rescued our water, wildlife, and parks and trails in 2009. After years of steady decline, the share of the state’s general budget allocated to our natural resources was expected to drop below 1 percent for the first time ever in 2010. Worse yet, historic budget deficits were looming and Minnesota’s Great Outdoors were expected to take an even bigger hit.
Fed up with the continuing downward spiral, Minnesotans took matters into our own hands and passed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment in November 2008, with monumental results. Despite this success, the 2009 session was not productive.
