2007 - Finally... Victory!

The 2007 legislative session disappointed some, but anyone who enjoys our state’s natural resources can be pleased with the outcome. There was major success on environmental initiatives both early and often.

These environmental successes were built from an agenda set by Conservation Minnesota and its partners, and received broad bipartisan support at the capitol. Most notably, Republican Governor Tim Pawlenty recognized early in the session that Minnesotans from all walks of life are demanding real solutions to address the global warming crisis and embraced some of our strong energy proposals. DFL legislative leaders acted on conservation policy initiatives at a level unseen in Minnesota politics for decades. Even though a few key conservation issues were left unfinished as a result of the end of session breakdown, they were not mortally damaged and await possible early action in the 2008 session.

This was a great year for Minnesotans who care about clean, safe energy; recycling; wetlands conservation, protection of our water; and other priorities. Don’t just take our word for it. The newly formed Progressive States Network  rated Minnesota highly based on our environmental successes, stating “the (Minnesota) Legislature… made some phenomenal environmental gains…”
