Overview:

Our natural resources are part of the Minnesota way of life

Our mission

In Minnesota, our natural resources are vital to our economy, our health and our way of life. We help you and other Minnesotans protect the lands, lakes, and way of life that we all cherish.

We do so by helping Minnesotans evaluate the performance of your elected representatives and hold those officials accountable by providing an unbiased report of conservation decisions at the capitol.

You are busy, we can help!

With busy lives and families, most people don’t have time to keep a close eye on what happens at the State Capitol. So, we keep an eye on it for you.  Why is this so important?

The most important conservation decisions are made by elected officials.  So one of the most important things we can do to protect our land, lakes, and way of life is to affect the outcome of those decisions.

For example:  In 2008, the Governor and legislature created Lake Vermillion State Park and, in one move, preserved 2500 acres of rugged Minnesota wilderness.  In 2006, they passed a law that will reduce toxic mercury emissions by 90% -- keeping our air and lakes cleaner.  Those were great decisions with tremendous impact.

After years of shrinking budgets, lawmakers placed the Clean Water, Land and Legacy Amendment on the November 2008 ballot. And voters decisively approved the amendment, providing over $270 million per year for the next 25 years for clean water, fish and wildlife habitat, parks and trails and cultural heritage.

Over 95% of the funding and all of the rules and regulations that impact our natural resources come from various levels of government.  The Conservation Minnesota Voter Center puts dependable information at your fingertips and makes it easy for you to evaluate the performance of your elected leaders.

Too Important for “Politics As Usual”

Like you, we know that conservation and our state’s future are too important for partisanship.  That’s why we cut through the agendas to bring you the facts. Because we are strictly nonpartisan, our Legislative Scorecard is the recognized standard for reporting on issues that affect our lands, lakes and lives.

Rewarding Real Leadership

We go the extra mile to point out real leadership when it happens.  Each year, we recognize conservation leaders of both parties who are working together for the future of Minnesota. When it is time for elections, the Conservation Minnesota Voter Fund provides information on candidates across the state.
